Rob Moffett

Rob Moffett: Sales & Marketing General Manager, Ongava Game Reserve

Rob Moffett’s journey in conservation began not in a boardroom, but on the backroads and wilderness of rural southern Africa. Raised with a deep connection to the land and its people, Rob’s early years instilled in him a sense of place - and a sense of responsibility. Two decades with Wilderness Safaris, spanning the wilds of Botswana and Namibia, shaped his understanding of the delicate balance between people, wildlife, and the landscapes they share.

Over time, Rob came to a realisation that would define his approach: conservation, at its heart, is a matter of land use economics. It is not only about science, or even the preservation of nature for its own sake, but about the choices people make - choices shaped by opportunity, equity, and the realities of rural life. He saw, too, the stark disparities in who bears the costs of conservation, and who reaps the rewards.

Rob’s passion for sustainable rural development is rooted in lived experience. He believes that the rights of people and the rights of wildlife are intertwined, and that the greatest threats to conservation are often the same forces that undermine peace and stability: poverty, exclusion, and lost opportunity. His work is guided by a simple principle - supporting solutions that address the root causes of poverty, so that both people and wild places can thrive.

Today, Rob brings this philosophy to Ongava Game Reserve, on the edge of Etosha National Park, where he leads Sales & Marketing as part of the Naturally Namibia alliance. He is a past, long-serving Trustee of Save the Rhino Trust, lending his voice and experience to the cause of Namibia’s iconic wildlife.

For Rob, conservation is not a distant ideal. It is a daily practice, shaped by partnership, pragmatism, and a profound respect for the land and those who call it home.
